ISIS Requested Changes and/or Features

Request1: Add median and mode spatial filters.

Request2: Add ability to annotate (add text) to a cube file.

Request3: Add gaussian or histogram equalization stretches.

Request4: Add more spectral analysis tools (e.g., matching & mixing). [The "unmix" program now provides some spectral unmixing capability.]

Request5: Add more capability for editing an ISIS cube file label. [The "labels" program now provides additional label editing capability. Also, the "cpylab" program now provides improved label copying capabilities.]

Request6: Add a principle component analysis module to classify spectral types within an ISIS cube file .

Request7: Port the Unix version of ISIS to the VAX/VMS platform and/or the Alpha/VMS platform.

Request8: Port more PICS functions into Unix ISIS.

Request9: Add the PICS profile (1-D) and area (2-D) topographic mapping using photoclinometry.

Request10: Add areal photogrammetric topographic mapping using stereo matching via automatic pattern recognition. [This would be a very large research project and thus is not likely to be implemented in the foreseeable future.]

Request11: Provide a graphical user interface for invoking the ISIS programs. [A primary requirement of ISIS here at the U.S.G.S. is to process large numbers of images in a batch mode using TAE procedure PDFs or shell/Perl scripts. Thus, there are not plans to implement a graphical user interface.]

Request12: Add ability to write ISIS cube data to a Geotiff format file, e.g., perhaps in the "isis2std" IDL program.

Request13: Use "standard" PDS label format for ISIS files. [It is not feasible for ISIS file labels to be exactly compatible with the PDS label standard. When the ISIS label structure was defined and implemented, we attempted to be as compatible as possible with PDS standards. However, some differences were necessary because PDS is an archive/data exchange format whereas the ISIS labels must allow dynamic on-line updating of information. Also, when the ISIS labels were designed, some necessary features had not yet been defined in the PDS "standard." These were subsequently defined in different ways by PDS. Another problem is that the PDS "standard" has changed since the ISIS labels were designed. Many ISIS files already exist, and it would not be feasible to convert them to conform to the current PDS standard.]

Request14: Eliminate the use of IDL by some of the ISIS display programs.

Request15: Add a translator between FITS format and ISIS format.

Request16: In "tbl2asc", add an otption to output directly to the controlling terminal rather than writing the ASCII listing to a file.

Request17: In "geom", add the option of a sinc interpolation filter.

Request18: In "qview" (and other display programs), add an option of a logarithmic intensity stretch.

Request19: Add additional pixel data types, e.g., complex, INTEGER*4, unsigned INTEGER*2.

Request20: Add FFT functions and filtering in Fourier space.

Request21: In "cv", add ability to include backplane data in the average spectrum table files.

Request22: Add support for the Solaris x86 platform.
