Description

External Post:

Recommendation by external reporter:
It may be helpful for the error report from spiceinit, if possible, to give more information that might help in determining the problem. This "Unable to initialize camera model" can occur if there is indeed a spice kernel gap or when there is this input file corruption.

Backup Information:
CK and SPK kernels seem to be fine and don't have any gaps in coverage (confirmed with NAIF), but ESP_028729_1385 cannot be processed through geometry due to a spiceinit fail.

Follow-up information by reporter:
Reprocessing the observation from EDR_Stats pipeline appears to have cleared up the problem. There must be some kind of rare corruption that occurs to the balance cubes during calibration processing that leads to this problem later in geometry.

This issue can be closed as it does not appear to be a problem with ISIS.

Steps to reproduce:

The Error encountered:

0170 stderr: Group = Error
0171 stderr: Program = spiceinit
0172 stderr: Class = "CAMERA ERROR"
0173 stderr: Code = 6
0174 stderr: Message = "Unable to initialize camera model"
0175 stderr: File = spiceinit.cpp
0176 stderr: Line = 167
0177 stderr: End_Group
0178 stderr: End_Object
0179 stderr: End
0180 stderr: *** ERROR *** SpiceInit
0181 stderr: ISIS program spiceinit failed.
0182 stderr: File: /HiRISE/Data/HiStitch/ESP/ORB_028700_028799/ESP_028729_1385/ESP_028729_1385_RED0.balance.cub
