Description

I am now working at China University of Geosciences (Wuhan).

I noticed that since ~1 month (maybe longer) ago, I cannot use web=yes in speicinit. I tried this in Macau and Hongkong, web=yes does not work either.

When I am trying to download the full kernel information, the speed is extreamly slow and unstable. It is not due to my local internet condition though, because I can open bbc and cnn in a second. Updating ISIS is fast at Macau though.

Please advise. Thank you.

Zhiyong

Zhiyong,

Change the URL in spiceinit to https instead of http and change the port number to 443.
Please see ticket number #4552 for some more details.
This change is expected to be in the next release of ISIS Jan 2017

Dear Stuart:

Thank you.

The solution to the thread #4552 does not work for me. Here is the code that I have run, and here is the result:

spiceinit from=M180858719RE.cal.cub url=https://services.isis.astrogeology.usgs.gov/cgi-bin/spiceinit.cgi web=true port=443

**ERROR** The server sent an unrecognized response.

BTW: is there a way to make faster download of all the spacecraft kernels?

Thank you.

Zhiyong, So far we have not been able to reproduce your error with the spice service. We were getting the exact error you are reporting, but the new URL and port fixed it. As far as the down loading the full data set goes, it is nearly 400GB. I suggest you pick and choose which missions you want and only download them. You can also skip the DEMs if you don't need them. See the installation guide for details.

Zhiyong,

We are now able to reproduce your error. We are working on a solution.

Zhiyong Xiao, The "spiceinit web=yes" option is now working. If you are still having problems with that option please let us know.

The full download of ISIS data is nearly 400GB. We are not seeing any issues with the rsync servers. If you have a connection that has a timeout or is unreliable for large downloads, you may have to repeatedly rsync the data. In that case use the --partial option, so you do not have to start from the beginning every time you restart the rsync.
