Description

Hi,
I'd like to install ISIS3 on a RHEL 6.5 machine. I tried installing it using the following command:

rsync -azv --delete --partial isisdist.astrogeology.usgs.gov::x86-64_linux_RHEL/isis .

However, this was emt with the following error:

rsync: failed to connect to isisdist.astrogeology.usgs.gov: Connection timed out (110)
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(124) [receiver=3.0.6]

I read a couple of posts regarding the same error. However, their solutions do not work (port 80, enable ssh).
Note: I have not forgotten the . at the end.

I understand that RHEL6.5 is no longer supported. However, I came across a few threads talking about the above command working alright to install on the 6.5 version. If I am mistaken, is there some way I could install a version which works on RHEL6.5? I am currently unable to move to another machine.

Ritu Anilkumar,

1) The isisdist.astrogeology.usgs.gov server looks to be up and accepting connections. You may also try using the other server at: isisdist.wr.usgs.gov
2) The error you are getting indicates you are not getting connected to the isisdist.astrogeology.usgs.gov server before some timeout happens. This might be due to your network connection or a firewall issue
3) The current public release of ISIS 3.5.0 does not support RHEL 6.x. There are numerous system libraries that may need to be added to get it to work. I do not suggest trying that route.
4) You can still download the 3.4.13 version that was build for RHEL 6.x. The rsync module names are listed when you don't have a module name on the command line.

rsync -azv --delete --partial --port=80 isisdist.astrogeology.usgs.gov::

You may download the older version using:

 rsync -azv --delete --partial --port=80 isisdist.astrogeology.usgs.gov::x86-64_linux_RHEL/isis .

Hi Stuart. You're right, it was a firewall issue. There are some standing issues such as error viewing shared libraries libicui18n.so.50. But I've seen a few threads here about dealing with it. I'll look into it.

Thanks for your time.

Cheers,
Ritu
