Description

Hi,

looks like shadow program works for all dems but the ones related to NASA/Dawn: Vesta and Ceres. Dawn data is synced. Isis version: 3.5.1.7995.

shadow from=${ISIS3DATA}/base/dems/Ceres_Dawn_FC_HAMO_DTM_DLR_Global_60ppd_Oct2016_prep.cub time=2016-01-01T00:00:00.000 to=test.cub SUNPOSITIONSOURCE=TIME

results into:

**ERROR** An unknown NAIF error has been encountered. The short explanation provided by NAIF is [SPICE(SPKINSUFFDATA)].
The Naif error is [Insufficient ephemeris data has been loaded to compute the position of 10 (SUN) relative to 2000001
(CERES) at the ephemeris epoch 2016 JAN 01 00:01:08.183.].

the same error results on Vesta's dem. Anyway, shadow on MOLA / LRO/LOLA / Kaguya dems on the same date work flawlessy.

PCK and SPK in tspk data/dawn dir tell that that date should be covered.

Do I have to specify some kernel in particular, am I missing some piece of information needed to shadow program?

Best,

Alessandro

Hi Alessandro,

The program needs to know the location of the sun relative to Ceres at the time you specified. ISIS3 uses SPICE data to obtain this information. For most of the major planets ISIS3 knows where to get this, but for Ceres it does not. Use the SPK and PCK parameters to provide the needed information.

shadow from=${ISIS3DATA}/base/dems/Ceres_Dawn_FC_HAMO_DTM_DLR_Global_60ppd_Oct2016_prep.cub time=2016-01-01T00:00:00.000 to=test.cub SUNPOSITIONSOURCE=TIME spk=\$dawn/kernels/tspk/sb_ceres_140724.bsp pck=\$dawn/kernels/pck/dawn_ceres_v05.tpc

Hi Stuart,

Using the spk and pck parameters now it works! Anyway, please note that the spk and pck for Ceres are already in the ISIS3 distribution (sb_ceres_140724.bsp and dawn_ceres_v02.tpc), so maybe shadow should go and get them automatically or we should get some specific notes in the documentation/manual.

Thanks for the support!

Alessandro
