Hi there,

I was wondering if it was possible to plot histograms for the same region in two different cubes simultaneously. I've done this for two-dimensional profiling, but it doesn't appear to be available for the histogram tool. Can you confirm that this is not possible, and if not, could I please add a feature request to include this in a future release of ISIS?

Thanks!

Catherine

First reponse to reporter:

Hi Catherine,

I tried it by linking two view ports, (under both rectangle and line option); it looks like it will draw the selected area around both images simultaneously, but I only get the plot of the image that I selected the area with. As you, I also expected similar behavior as the 2-D plots...so, I will report this in our internal tracking system.

I'm going to call it a bug rather than a feature, only because 1) it draws a line or box on the other linked view port and 2) I would bet that the developer intended the same behavior as the 2-D and 3-D plots...

Thank you very much for bringing this to our attention.

The last round this was looked at, I was the programmer. I didn't make it function because it required opening N windows, not drawing N curves, or putting in a lot of work that wasn't originally done (and not really part of my task). It is a non-trivial amount of work to put two histograms into the same plot... due to needing to make the binning the same... so I just left it alone.

This really is a missing feature, the drawing of the boxes in the other viewports is a bug.

I have responded to the external reporter as follows:

Hi Catherine,

A developer reviewed what you have reported.

1) It is currently not possible to plot histograms from two different cubes simultaneously. The developer estimates that this is a non-trival amount of work in plotting two separate histograms into the same plot due to binning requirements. Regardless, we will modify this as a new 'feature' request in Mantis #986. I cannot give you a 'Target Version' at this time with our current limited resources...the nice thing about our internal isis-support tracking system is that this request will be tracked and revisited as resources are made available.

2) The drawing of the box on the other linked view ports is considered a 'bug', so I will be reporting this as a separate Mantis post.

I have changed the type from bug to feature.

Target Version has been changed from Nov, 2012 to Future Release for now.

A recent request has been made for additional functionality with the histogram tool in qview. Related ticket #5088.

Revisit and estimate the amount of effort it would take to add this functionality.
